“This kind of partnership initiated by the #PADFA and HKI will certainly contribute to reducing hunger and improving nutrition in the Savanes District”
It is in these terms that the Honorable KONÉ DOGNON, 2nd Vice-Governor of the Autonomous District of Savanes, representing the Minister Governor, General Issa COULIBALY ended her opening speech at the meeting to launch the activities to consolidate the ASNAP project and support 10 groups of women infant flour processors on June 15, 2023.
Indeed, the promotion of women's empowerment and nutrition are important components of the #PADFA. To do this, the PCU has decided to enter into a contract with the international NGO HKI to ensure the continuation of certain activities of the Support Project for Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture and the Development of the Capacities of Small Farmers (ASNAP) started in 2019 and ending in February 2022, namely the consolidation of achievements in production, marketing, management of irrigation water facilities and good nutritional practices by smallholder farmers' organizations, and support to ten (10) groups of women infant flour processors in the area of intervention of the #PADFA. It is within this framework that about forty people made up of the administrative and political authorities of the Autonomous District of Savanes, the decentralized structures of the Ministry of State, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (#meminader) and the Ministry of Family, Women and Children (#MFFE), NGOs and International Organizations of the United Nations System and others, companies and beneficiaries were invited by HKI and the #PADFA at the kick-off meeting for the implementation of this partnership.
During this meeting, the project was presented to all participants. The organizers had to: (i) inform and make participants aware of the existence of the project (its objectives and expected results), (ii) present the operational methods of implementation, (iii) clarify the roles and responsibilities of the different actors and (iv) collect recommendations for successful implementation.
At the end of the discussions, the participants recommended, among other things, to: (i) involve the decentralized structures in the supervision missions, (ii) take into account the conservation aspect of market garden products through refrigerated containers, (iii) strengthen irrigation system maintenance committees, (iv) advocate with decentralized structures and the #PADFA for the integration of new groups of women.
It should be noted that this two (02) year partnership is implemented with 10 groups of women producers of market gardeners from the ASNAP Project and in 10 groups of women producers of infant flour from 10 villages from the five regions of intervention of PADFA for an amount of 288 million CFA francs. Ultimately, women receiving support will see their production improved and their income increased.
