Farmer Days for Community Awareness and Training

With the aim of contributing to the reduction of deforestation in the supply chain of agricultural products, the fight against global warming and the strengthening of the resilience of communities in the face of the effects of climate change, the #PADFA initiated the community reforestation project of 100 ha and agroforestry of 50 plots for the benefit of rural communities living in its area of intervention. This activity was entrusted to the professional company Foncier-Foresterie-Agriculture (FOA) which works in collaboration with the relevant departments of the Ministry of Water and Forests (#minef), under the facilitation of the administrative and customary authorities and under the control of the Coordination Unit of the #PADFA.

In order to encourage community support for the restoration and preservation of forests as well as their ownership of reforestation techniques, public discussion sessions with the communities called "farmers' days" have been organized by the Company. FOA and the #PADFA. Thus, the villages Zangokro (Gbêkê), Toumbokaha (Hambol), Séguédé (Poro), Nambéguévogo (Tchologo) and Kasséré (Bagoué) received these delegations from June 6 to 10, 2023.

These days were co-facilitated by a trainer from the FOA company and a representative of the Regional Directorates of the Ministry of Water and Forests in each locality visited. The first step was to remind people of the consequences of deforestation and the risks associated with the advance of the desert and to present the communities with sustainable solutions for the restoration and preservation of forests. Secondly, it was a question of presenting to the communities the regulatory measures that encourage, encourage and reassure them in terms of the creation and preservation of forests.

Finally, the exchanges focused on the experiences of the populations in terms of sustainable management of ecosystems in order to provide answers to their possible concerns.

At the end of these different sessions, it was communities headed by their customary authorities who, having become aware of the current situation of the forest in their localities, committed themselves by all means to the restoration of the vegetation cover of their localities. .
