The Coordination Unit of the Support Program for the Development of Agricultural Sectors (UC – PADFA) and the professional company Land-Forestry-Agriculture (FOA) launched the community reforestation and agroforestry project in the area of PADFA on Wednesday, February 08, 2023 at the Hotel La Rose Blanche in Korhogo.
This ceremony was chaired by Mr. N'GUESSAN Kouassi Émile, Secretary General of the Prefecture, representing the Prefect of the Poro Region, Prefect of the Department of Korhogo and recorded the presence of several sub-Prefects, Regional Directors of the Ministry of Water and Forests, MÉMINADER, the (mango, onion and rice), the customary authorities of the beneficiary villages, the representatives of the cooperatives of producers of the mango, rice and market gardening sectors and experts from the CU – PADFA.
In front of this audience of personalities, Mr. KOUMAN Étienne, Operations Manager at FOA, presented the framework for the implementation of the project, the operating mode and the schedule of activities. At the end of this presentation, the participants made contributions for the success of the project.
The goal of community reforestation (RebCom) is to contribute to reducing deforestation in the supply chain of agricultural products, to the fight against global warming and to strengthening the resilience of communities to the effects of climate change. This requires the promotion of good environmental practices that will allow the restoration of forest cover, the conservation of natural resources and the development of agroforestry models guaranteeing the diversification of the means of subsistence of farmers.
CU – PADFA initiated this community reforestation and agroforestry project for the benefit of rural communities living in its area of intervention and the technical activities of the RebCom project were entrusted to the professional company Foncier-Foresterie-Agriculture ( FOA) in collaboration with the competent services of the Ministry of Water and Forests and under the supervision of the CU – PADFA.
At the end of its implementation of RebCom, a total of 102 ha spread over 18 plots will be taken into account for reforestation and 178 ha spread over 50 plots for agroforestry.
At the end of this ceremony, Mr. N'GUESSAN Kouassi Émile, Secretary General of the Prefecture, representing the Prefect of the Poro Region, in his closing remarks, invited all the actors present to take ownership of this project to reduce deforestation in the North , because according to him, "species such as néré and shea are largely destroyed for the production of charcoal".
